Media Center Library
The International School of Turin has two areas dedicated to books and reading: the Media Center Library and the Reading Room. Together they contain over 10,000 volumes in English, Italian, French, Spanish, German and Dutch. In addition to print resources, the Media Center provides access to a number of online resources (such as EBSCO and Britannica: see Media Center Coordinator for username and password). The online library catalog can be accessed from any device in the school and from home.
The Media Center Library and the Reading Room are open for students' use from 8:30 to 5:00, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; and from 8:30 to 3:30 Wednesday and Friday. The Media Center Coordinator and the Library assistant are available throughout the school day to assist students and faculty in finding suitable materials.
The Media Center Library and the Reading Room aim to teach students the importance of books and a love of reading. They also support the PYP units of inquiry in the classroom and enable students to become information literate. Students receive instruction on how to use the library and how to access information from the online library catalogue in order to become independent library users. The Media Center Library also serves as a study area for all students.
At least twice a year there are book fairs which offer students and their parents the opportunity to purchase English books of their own. The school receives a small percentage from the books sold in order to purchase new books for the Library. This past year, with the generous help of the PTA, the library’s fiction collection has grown, further inspiring our avid readers!
