International School of Turin wins tournament!

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF TURIN BEATS THE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF MILAN ON HOME TURF!

IST's Under-18 boys soccer team came home unbeaten from last Friday's soccer tournament sponsored by the International School of Milan where five teams from Milan, Turin and Australia battled it out to take the honours. Player of the Tournament Francesco Cappellini who scored 5 goals, including 2 in the final! After 2 draws and 2 wins in the five game tournament, Turin faced ISM on their own turf.

IST's youth policy has finally come to fruition, and the next batch of youngsters is already making the grade! Pietro Civallero from grade 9 was part of the team. Having already beaten ISM in the group stage 3-2 (goals from Yi Zu, Afonso Saraiva and the winner from Edo Re in the final minutes) and with 2-0 down with 7 minutes to play Cappellini came up with a 'peach', beating the keeper from distance with a beautiful shot. An ISM defensive mistake with 30 seconds remaining, allowed Cappellini to go one-on-one 1 with the ISM goalkeeper and with the 'cheekiest' of finishes, just rolled the ball past him to send the game into a penalty shoot out. With the best high school goal keeper in the country (possibly the world!), the IST team was confident that with Luciano Pasquini the trophy was their's for the taking. "I have never known players so confident from the penalty spot" said Head Coach Andy "Ferguson" Ridgway. ISM missed their first penalty while Cappellini, Isoardi, Melchiorre, Marchiaro (right footed!) all scored. This left Saraiva needing to score to win. He was born for this moment. IST players feel no pressure under such circumstances, not least of all the Portuguese wizard. Sariava stepped up, and stroked the ball calmly into the bottom lefthand corner, sending the keeper in the wrong direction. The shirt was off in celebration, before the ball even hit the back of the net. IST, Champions!

IST Squad

Luciano Pasquini

Donato Melchiorre (captain)

Alessandro Isoardi

Alessandro Marchiaro

Giovanne Liore

Massimo Cirillo

Pietro Civallero

Yi Zu

Edoardo Re

Afonso Maria De Almeida Paulos Alves Saraiva

Francesco Cappellini

Filippo De Nunno

Congratulations to coach Andrew Ridgway and the team and long may we stay at the top!
