Cookie Policy

The International School of Turin, Strada Pecetto 34 – 10023 – Chieri (TO) (hereinafter, the “School” or the “Controller”), provides the following information regarding browsing data and the functioning of cookies and other tracking tools on the website https://www.isturin.it/ and its related subdomains (hereinafter, the “Website”). For the purposes of this notice, for simplicity, the term “cookie” also refers to other tracking tools used by the Website, as described in more detail below.

The following information applies to the School’s Website and not to other third-party websites that the user may access through links present on the Website.

This Cookie Policy should be read in conjunction with the Privacy Policy relating to the Website, available at https://www.isturin.it/privacy-policy, to which reference is made for all other information regarding the processing of your personal data.

1. Browsing Data, Cookies, and Other Tracking Tools

1.1. Browsing Data
The IT systems and software procedures used for the operation of the Website automatically collect certain personal data during their normal functioning, the transmission of which is implicit in the use of Internet communication protocols.

This information is not collected to be associated with identified individuals, but by its very nature it could, through processing and associations with data held by third parties, allow users to be identified.

This category of data includes IP addresses or domain names of the computers used by users connecting to the Website, URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) addresses of requested resources, the time of the request, the method used to submit the request to the server, the size of the file obtained in response, the numerical code indicating the server’s response status (success, error, etc.), and other parameters relating to the user’s operating system and IT environment.

These data are used solely to obtain anonymous statistical information on the use of the Website and to ensure its proper functioning, and are deleted immediately after processing.

Data may be used to determine liability in the event of hypothetical cybercrimes affecting the Website; except for this eventuality, the data are retained for the periods defined by applicable law or, more generally, only for the time strictly necessary to provide the requested service to the user and ensure the transmission of communications.

1.2. Cookies and Other Tracking Tools

Cookies are generally text strings that websites (so-called publishers or “first parties”) visited by the user, or different websites or web servers (so-called “third parties”), place and store—directly, in the case of publishers, and indirectly, i.e., through third parties—in a terminal device under the user’s control. The terminal devices referred to may include, for example, a personal computer, tablet, smartphone, or any other device capable of storing information.

Internet browsing software and the functioning of these devices, such as browsers, can store cookies and then transmit them back to the websites that generated them on subsequent visits by the same user, thus retaining memory of their previous interaction with one or more websites.

The information encoded in cookies may include personal data, such as an IP address, username, unique identifier, or email address, but may also contain non-personal data, such as language preferences or information about the type of device a person is using to browse the site.

Cookies can therefore perform important functions, including: authentication, session monitoring, storing information on specific configurations related to users accessing the server, facilitating the use of online content, tracking items in an online shopping cart, or retaining information used to complete an online form. “Authentication cookies” are particularly important whenever verification of the person accessing certain services is required, such as banking services.

Additionally, cookies can also be used to deliver behavioral advertising and to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns.

1.3. Types of Cookies

Cookies and other tracking tools may differ in terms of duration and can therefore be classified based on their lifespan (session or persistent cookies) or from a subjective perspective (depending on whether the publisher acts independently or on behalf of a third party). In any case, the classification that primarily serves the purpose of protecting the user is based on three main categories:

  • Technical cookies: used solely to “transmit a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide that service”;
  • Profiling cookies: used to associate specific actions or recurring behavioral patterns in the use of the offered functionalities (patterns) with identified or identifiable individuals, in order to group different profiles into homogeneous clusters of varying size, making it possible to deliver increasingly targeted advertising messages, in line with the preferences expressed by the user during web browsing;
  • Analytics cookies: also used to evaluate the effectiveness of an information society service provided by a publisher, for website design purposes, or to help measure its “traffic,” i.e., the number of visitors, possibly broken down by geographic area, connection time slot, or other characteristics. According to the Italian Data Protection Authority, these identifiers may be considered technical cookies and, as such, may be used without prior consent from the user, if:
    • they are used solely to produce aggregate statistics for a single website or mobile application;
    • for third-party analytics cookies, at least the fourth component of the IP address is masked;
    • third parties refrain from combining these analytics cookies with other processing (such as client files or visit statistics from other sites) or from transmitting them to third parties.

Under current legislation, the use of technical cookies is subject only to the obligation to provide this information notice, whereas profiling cookies and other tracking tools may be used only after obtaining your free, specific, and informed consent, expressed through the relevant features of the Website.

If the user does not wish the social network to record data related to the visit to the Website, they must log out of their social account and, likely, delete the cookies that the social network has installed in the user’s browser.
