IST Italian Programme is designed to properly respond to the students' needs, regardless of their mother tongue or country of origin. Since the school is located in Italy we believe each student should learn Italian, an approach coherent with the IB philosophy of our school.
The Italian Programme is a living and essential component of the IST educational program.
Since 2002 the early years has been recognized by MIUR (Ministry of Education, University and Research) as a kindergarten and an equal primary school. In the elementary school the Italian study is taken care of from the grammatical and linguistic point of view as indicated by the Italian ministerial programs. The subjects of social studies, geography, mathematics, sciences, art, music, computers, English as a second language and physical education, are held in English.
Students of other mother tongue are offered the Italian for Foreigners (IFL) course which allows them to gradually acquire specific oral and written language skills.
According to ministerial regulations, Grade 2 and Grade 5 students are given INVALSI tests for the national verification of learning.
The middle school program follows that of the MYP course with particular attention to the Italian programme for both written and oral exams. The subjects of social studies, geography, mathematical sciences, art, music, computers, English as a second language and physical education are taught in English. At the end of the lower secondary school (Grade 8) students are prepared to take the Media License Exam at a state school.
